Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!  We are honored that you are considering our church for your special event. We welcome non-members to be married here, and ministers from other churches may officiate at the service.

Our church office staff is always available to answer any questions you may have, and church tours are available during regular office hours. Our best wishes to you during this important time in your lives, and we hope you prayerfully consider use of our church for your special event! The following is important information that will help you as you decide where to exchange your vows.

What To Do First

Your first contact about a wedding should be with the church office (616-676-2166).  The scheduled time and date are subject to the church calendar.  The earlier you contact the office, the more likely the church will be available on the date you desire. When you call the church office, be ready to share whether or not you plan to have a rehearsal before the service.  When your deposit is received, you will be sent a letter confirming the wedding date and a list of things you should do before making an appointment with the pastor.

The Minister

The minister authorizes all weddings in the church.  You are encouraged to think about the kind of wedding service you want, and to share your ideas when you meet with the minister.  There is no fixed form which must be used, although there are traditional forms which may be chosen.  The wedding itself is to be considered a joyful service of Christian worship.

The Wedding Hostess

The wedding hostess serves as a resource person for your wedding.  Any questions you may have concerning church procedures and protocol, or wedding etiquette, can be answered by the wedding hostess.  She will help coordinate all of your planning so you can be assured nothing will be forgotten and everything will run smoothly the day of the service.  The wedding hostess must be in attendance at rehearsals, rehearsal dinners held at the church, weddings, and receptions held at the church.

The Organist

The organist of the church will meet with you to discuss possible music selections.  If additional music is desired (soloist, instrumentalist, etc.) arrangements for this is the responsibility of those being married.  The organist may be of assistance in making recommendations.  The organist of the church or a substitute authorized by the church organist must play for all weddings in which the church organ or grand piano is used.

Photographers and Florists

Services of a photographer and any floral decorations are the responsibility of those being married.  The wedding hostess may be of assistance in recommending reliable photographers and creative florists.  Please ask your photographer and guests to refrain from taking flash photos during the ceremony.  The photographer should remain at the rear of the sanctuary or in the balcony throughout the service.  The same applies to videotape recordings.  Arrangements may be made for pictures to be posed and taken before or following the service.

The church is equipped with a sound system.  Our wedding hostess will help you determine if the sound system is necessary.  Available for your use is a Unity Candle holder as well as two candelabra.  Only non-drip candles are to be used and must be supplied by the bride and groom.  A kneeling bench is also available upon request.  White aisle runners are strongly discouraged.

Rates and Deposit

Our wedding rate includes use of the sanctuary, parlor with kitchenette, choir room, candelabra, kneeler, Unity Candle holder, and sound equipment as necessary.  It also includes the services of the following church staff:  Minister, wedding hostess, organist, custodian, and sound technician.  If more rooms are needed, additional fees will be charged as listed in the “Building and Facilities Use” brochure.

Current rates can be discussed by calling the church office at 616-676-2166.  There is a discount available for current church members.  To receive the member discount, you must be an active church member in good standing for six months prior to paying your deposit.

In order to reserve the church for your special day, you will need to fill out a reservation form and pay a deposit.  Reservation forms are available at the church or by calling the church office.  Deposits are non-refundable.  The balance of the fees are due two weeks prior to your wedding.
