Our preschool Sunday school ministry serves as an introduction to God’s word for children 3, 4 or in Young-5’s. Bible stories, games, crafts, and other activities help our children experience the Bible in a fun and engaging way, while also strengthening relationships and friendships.
Faith Voyagers is a rotational-model Sunday school ministry for children in kindergarten through 4th grade. Students experience Bible stories over four or five weeks through a variety of different activities. Have you ever painted VanGogh’s Starry Night lying on your back, painting like Michelangelo painted the Sistine Chapel, while learning how God promised Abraham his descendents would be as numerous as the stars? Our Faith Voyagers paint with watercolors one week, bake pretzels in the kitchen another, and take a virtual tour of Jerusalem in the computer lab in another. We understand that all children learn in different ways and favor different subjects. We hope to connect God’s word with each child using one of the variety of subjects our Faith Voyagers experience.
Club 56 is scripture, service, and social ministry for our 5th and 6th graders. This group meets for Sunday school each week addressing topics that are pertinent to this age group. Bullying, cliques and self-esteem are just some of the topics this group will cover. Also, on the first Sunday of each month, Club 56 takes time to learn about the sacrament of Communion before returning to the service to partake with the adults.
But Club 56 isn’t just about Sunday school! Once a month, this group meets outside of church for a mixture of service projects and social events. Our children are willing and eager to serve this church and this community. They travel around Grand Rapids learning that God doesn’t just work in churches, but in each of us.
Venture down the hallway during the first part of Sunday school at the traditional service, and you are bound to hear the sweet sounds of children singing songs about God’s love. Our children in preschool Sunday school and Faith Voyagers come together to start each Sunday with a few minutes of music and prayer before they continue on to their lesson.
