Updates to Fall CE Schedule

Please take note of the changes made to this fall’s education schedule.
The Christian Education Board has spent much time in discussion and prayer as they have finalized the schedule. Thank you to everyone involved. Taking into consideration the recommendations from Council, feedback from the spring survey, attendance and staffing, the Christian Education Board voted at their July meeting to implement the following schedule for 2017-18.
If you are interested in helping or teaching any age, please contact Rebecca Riekse for Rick Dykema.

Sunday Schedule Resuming September 17

8:45 Worship

9:45 Adult Education, High School Sunday School, Creation Zone, Nursery, Fellowship

10:45 Worship, Sunday School for 3-Year-Olds-Middle School, Nursery

Adult classes at 9:45 a.m. will be similar to the past year with some being intergenerational for adults and teens together. Other Sundays will hold a separate class for high-schoolers.

The Creation Zone is open to all ages who are interested in art and self-directed activities: children, youth, and adults. Each month includes 3-4 thematic centers with projects.

Classes at 10:45 for three-year-olds through middle school students will begin following the Children’s Message.

With the return of more classes to this time frame, there will also be Family Worship Sundays when families worship together and there is NOT 10:45 Sunday school.

What is the Creation Zone?

Beginning on Sunday, September 17, the Creation Zone will be held in Classroom 5 during the 9:45 hour. It is open to all ages interested in art and self-directed activities: children, youth, and adults. Each month will include 3-4 thematic centers with projects. This is a great opportunity for families staying after the 8:45 service families or families arriving early for the 10:45 service. Some of the projects in the works include weaving, Legos, mosaics, painting, construction, and pottery.
Rebecca Riekse and Lauren Huyck are heading up the plans for the center, but welcome any suggestions or leadership in an art form. Watch for monthly themes posted in the Midweek.

When are Family Worship Sundays?

With the decision to return most Sunday school classes back to the 10:45 service, the Christian Education Board is mindful of many parents’ desire to still nurture an understanding of worship in their children. Therefore, it was suggested to incorporate Family Worship Sundays. On these days, classes are suspended so children can stay with their parents in worship. It is the goal of the Creative Worship Planning Team to keep these services more sensory-oriented and involve a variety of ages in leadership on these Sundays.

Dates for Family Worship are: September 10, October 1 (World Communion), November 12 (Praise and Thanks-giving), December 17 (cantata), December 24, December 31, January 7 (Epiphany), April 1 (Easter), April 8, and May 20 (Pentecost). Dates in February and March will also be selected.

On Family Worship Sundays, our youngest children still have the option to attend nursery or Young Children’s Worship.

Adult Education Classes

Plans are once again underway for a wonderful series of adult education classes offered at 9:45 on Sunday mornings. If you are interested in teaching a class or have a topic to suggest, please contact Rebecca Riekse, Rick Dykema, or Liz Ruehrdanz. The fall season begins with Rick Dykema leading “People and Places of the Bible” with a focus on the gospels. Other returning teachers include: Tracey Taylor-Kunst, and Becky and Brian Telzerow. Keep watch for a complete schedule.
